ABOUT SERC

 

The Seidman Educational Resource Center is the resource hub of the Auerbach Central Agency for Jewish Education.

SERC provides cutting-edge resources for schools, youth groups, camps and  Jewish

programs and provides resources and bibliographic support for all the programs of ACAJE.

   

SERC is responsible for:

•  The agency website

• SERC SITES

•  Online Resources

•  The Multimedia Lending Library

•  The Comprehensive Resource Library, including the Hands-on Lab

•  Jewish Literacy Programs

•  Hands-on LAB

SERC MISSION STATEMENT

 

The Seidman Educational Resource Center ("SERC") of the Auerbach Central Agency for Jewish Education/Jewish Outreach Partnership("ACAJE/JOP") is the informational gateway for the Jewish educational community of Greater Philadelphia.  Through the use of current technologies, SERC brings its creative and diverse Jewish educational resources to Jewish educators, parents, and lay leaders.

 

GOALS

• To encourage educational directors, teachers, youth leaders, parents, and others to use its specialized resources in their classrooms, youth groups, camps, homes, and beyond, to promote creative, innovative and dynamic teaching, learning, and programming
• To support and enhance the work of ACAJE/JOP consultation staff
• To develop specialized library collections to support the work of the ACAJE/JOP consultation staff and for use by educators in the field
• To disseminate topical, educational information to the Jewish community

 

"SERC SITES" E-MAIL NEWSLETTERS

 

SERC SITES is a monthly e-mail newsletter containing information about online topics of interest as well as upcoming agency and community workshops.

   SERC MULTIMEDIA LIBRARY   

 

The Multimedia Library contains the following items for preview and loan:

Video/DVD Orders - Please allow at least one day for processing and be sure that your order is confirmed by a SERC staff member.  

Materials may be ordered or picked up on Mondays - Thursdays, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Fridays until 2:00 or 3:00 PM, dependant on season.

The library also lends out the:

• "Attractive Land Map" of Israel
• IsraelExperts Israel Puzzle Map
• "Lambchop Goes to Israel!"  (2 Teaching Kits for Preschool - 3 and Grades 3+)

 

             

COMPREHENSIVE RESOURCE LIBRARY  

 

SERC's ever-growing collections of print (more than19,000 books, curricula, lesson plans, etc.), videos and DVDs (more than 1,300 items), audio and computer resources enable educators to review Jewish educational materials.  

Our books are catalogued online at the Gratz Tuttleman Library - when you do your search, check for the "SERC" at the top of the catalogue number.

ACAJE/JOP professionals can provide guidance to those who use the Center, helping them select the most appropriate materials for their needs.

 

• The Gold Pedagogic Reference Library (for in-house use only) comprises textbooks, children's literature, periodicals, journals, curricular units, lesson plans, and program materials, with special Holiday, Israel, Special Education, Holocaust Education, Family Education & Music Reference Collections. This reference library contains a computerized Resource Data Bank that is searchable by subject, method and age. A copier is available for public use, at a nominal fee.

 

• The Dr. Diane A . King Collection of Resources for Jewish Educational Leadership circulates both Jewish and secular pedagogic materials for educational directors.

• The Kossman Early Childhood Education Lending Library circulates children's books for ages preschool - primary for teachers in Jewish schools.

 

                                                    

 

SERC JEWISH LITERACY OUTREACH    

Among other initiatives, SERC holds two major annual Jewish reading programs for children:
